A Big Change: feeling overwhelmed.

I picked something up that will completely change how we do things on the narrowboat cafe - but then I got a bit overwhelmed by all the stuff you have to do to get it ready so I tidied up on Holly instead. Big thanks to the Patreon crew. Special thanks to Sam Osborne, manager of Sheepridge United FC for granting us his impromptu interview. To stay up to date on everything Sheepridge, click this...

Pretty excellent week - hanging out with friends, family and string quartets, opening the cafe boat and generally having a good time. We also got to rekindle our love of moving these skinny floating tubs we call home. Check out Marcus' UA-cam channel: www.youtube.com/@MarcusWarnerMusic Thanks all you for watching but major thanks to the Patreon crew. x

Another baby? A land cafe? What's the worst thing about living on a narrowboat? What does Vic do in his office all day? Thanks so much to everyone who asked us a question; we had some really good ones that we didn't get round to this time but we really appreciate you all taking the time to wonder, ask or just watch. x

We make some big changes to our narrowboat cafe. One fridge gets up cycled (literally) another fridge gets installed, we do a massive tidy up, and we nearly double our counter space. Thanks for watching, and big thanks to the Patreon crew. Also checkout eLOV if you're in the area and want anything done by bike. Some of the music in this episode was made by the great Tom Beecham.

    I wish you would always wear your helmet on your bike your head is very very vulnerable. Had a cousin who came off on a slow local ride and spent over 7 days in a coma. To this day at over 80 he still has a bump on his forehead, if he had hit a thinner part of his skull he would have died nearly 70 years ago😦

    If you buy a new boat you can only watch it go down hill. Do jobs and fettle “stufff” to an old boat and it gets better. Hopefully 😂

    I will admit that a performance in reading books and telling tales was something we all looked forward to! The Sseussian rhythms, the songs, the drums and the crooning, we did it all the children and I! And great fun was had by all. The children carried on the singing and music with THEIR children but did not have (?!?!!) the Sseussian Rhythm. Baffling but as Granny still lives, the grands heard it nonetheless. Baffling. Very impressive work you are performing, Vic! It is difficult to tell, with cameras, daylight and smoke, just how thick a haze ACTUALLY is! In the states, washers and dryers are separate and the dryer is vented outside of the building to cut down on the moisture and humidity introduced into the home when the dryer is NOT vented. Do the combo washer/dryer units also have ventilation to remove the moisture from the house? Surely, they must with the humidity already surrounding the British Isles! The dryer vent hose, metal, could effectively keep the green bean smoke from the interior and let it waft out to attract the coffee drinkers like myself and my parents and brothers that would almost guarantee a Pied Piper effect with the wondering caffeine addicts and bring them all to your window!!! THAT is an animated image that I can easily picture in a Dr. Seuss book, longer rounded noses pointing into the roasting wafts as they walk, single file and noses up towards Holly! Anyway, if the smoke becomes a problem, the metal flex hose would accommodate the angle from roaster to exhaust fan with ease! Some heat shielding one the employee side of the roasting setup may become necessary. Maybe not!? Lovely video! Please excuse my lame attempts at humor! Your roaster is a game changer if you time your roasts to attract your custom. 🫰

    Many years ago I managed to load 8 x 4m 40mm worktops into a Volvo 740, as I drove home I rapidly began to realise a firm push on the brake would result in them all disapearing through the windscreen with some force.

    I'm sure the business case for the coffee roaster identified all the training needs 😂. Quality and consistency - vital for your customers. Maybe once you have it sorted make your own recipe book for the type of taste you're aiming for. It's chemistry and art - you guys are amazing 🤩

    If, at first, you do things wrong, it might become important to READ THE DESTRUCTIONS. I can't drink, or even be close, to corfee, I am illogical to it, and it is always waiting to kill me. Do you sell green tea? And do you carry organic honey as a sweetener?

    Visited your cafe boat for the first time a few weekends ago. Highly recommend the cakes, and may have consumed a few cinnamon buns too, and left with a slice of everything. The coffee was very good too. Definitely a summer highlight meeting you both. But, come on Vic, every morning it seems you make yourself a coffee before doing anything on Holly. How surprised we were to discover it would take you no time at all to make one for Jo (or tea) and take it to her on Zero. Need to up your game😂Hope to visit again in the future when our waistline’s have recovered 😮All the best to the 3 of you.

    Flies!? WARNING. I was cycling around Starnberger See (lake), Bavaria, some years ago now and a wasp flew in behind / got sucked into the space behind my glasses and stung me right in the corner of the teardrop part of the eye. Such a painful event which continued to play up for years afterwards. I could have done with a double Espresso from a self roaster Canal boat Cafe just to take my mind off pain to concentrate on taste. 😊

    I was so excited when I saw you were adding a roaster! I've been roasting coffee for personal use for years, and what I lack in skill is made up for by having fresh coffee and starting with really good beans. You've probably made good progress on figuring it out by now, but there are some guides online, like on Sweet Maria's. I find sound most useful. I try to stop after the first round of popping, and before or just when the 2nd round of cracking begins, for a medium-dark roast.

  • @nortonmolly
    @nortonmolly 2 години тому

    I’m surprised that you didn’t put the roaster on the foredeck area, then you wouldn’t need that bulky extraction fan. The fan needs to be connected to the roaster for better smoke capture. The fan could be mounted on the roof (inside a box) and then you just have chimney inside the boat. You are the best editor on UA-cam 👍👍

    Green roasted beans, or "light roast" over here in the US is classified as "White Coffee or White Zombie" lightly roasted beans give a macadamia nut flavor. NOT THE TRADITIONAL BURNT TOAST FLAVOR. And White Coffee has twice the caffeine and Half of the acid. Quite the hot ticket over here, maybe it should be there too. Find a local that serves white coffee, try it and maybe add it to your menu. {{ White coffee, French vanilla and White chocolate latte breve.}}} YUMMM } Ever had a vanilla milk shake with a punch of caffeine.????? 20oz White Coffee, latte, Breve, W/French Vanilla, And White Chocolate, extra shot of French vanilla, 114*F Shaken not stirred. Just try to drink it slow, I bet you can't. An another, an another, an another.

    I always thought them little flat-build lock and catch 'thingy-me-bobs' were clever little things, and most roasters and heaters have a speed setting and final cool down period (where the fans spin quicker to exhaust the heat, I think it also senses if the temp gets too hot as the set point and does same during a roast cycle too) +Another Holly Cafe Boat episode gives more inspiration for my solar and diy style boat project myself ;) whoop whooop
